HYDRAULIC FRACTURING DESIGN IMPROVEMENTS BY PROPPANT FLOWBACK MITIGATION METHOD APPLICATION DURING HYDROCARBON PRODUCTION

چکیده

Proppant flowback after hydraulic fracturing treatment is quite a serious challenge that causes damage to both downhole and surface equipment, leading unwanted workovers production suspension, or other negative outcomes. Some special methods including preventive as well corrective measures already exist in the industry overcome proppant problems. However, there no clear guidance on how choose method for certain conditions, particularly during design stages. Therefore, authors conducted comprehensive review of fourteen technologies systematize them propose an initial decision-making approach. The following were considered this paper: Resin Coated Proppants (RCP), RCP with Activator, Nanoparticles, Liquid Systems (LRS), Surface Modification Agents (SMA), Consolidation Aid (PCA), Cylindrical Proppant, Microfibers, Thermoset Fibers, Film Strips, Deformable Isometric Particles (DIP), Expandable Proppants, Polymer Modified In-situ Formulated Proppants. reveals physical, chemical, technological properties each select criteria effective screening. So, reader could find appropriate mitigation corresponding particular reservoir conditions

Microbial communities in flowback water impoundments from hydraulic fracturing for recovery of shale gas.

Hydraulic fracturing for natural gas extraction from shale produces waste brine known as flowback that is impounded at the surface prior to reuse and/or disposal. During impoundment, microbial activity can alter the fate of metals including radionuclides, give rise to odorous compounds, and result in biocorrosion that complicates water and waste management and increases production costs. Here, ...

Analysis of hydraulic fracturing flowback and produced waters using accurate mass: identification of ethoxylated surfactants.

Two series of ethylene oxide (EO) surfactants, polyethylene glycols (PEGs from EO3 to EO33) and linear alkyl ethoxylates (LAEs C-9 to C-15 with EO3-EO28), were identified in hydraulic fracturing flowback and produced water using a new application of the Kendrick mass defect and liquid chromatography/quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The Kendrick mass defect differentiates the proton,...

The effect of sufficient barrier layers on hydraulic fracturing design efficiency in one of the Iranian South hydrocarbon reservoirs

Hydraulic fracturing and matrix stimulation are two major methods of the reservoir stimulation. Hydraulic fracturing, which is the newest technique and technically more complex, is very useful in low permeability reservoirs. Although it has been used widely in hydrocarbon production wells, it is a new method in Iran. In this paper, the effect of sufficient barrier layers on hydraulic fracturing...

Self-Potential Observations During Hydraulic Fracturing

The self-potential (SP) response during hydraulic fracturing of intact Sierra granite was investigated in the laboratory. Excellent correlation of pressure drop and SP suggests that the SP response is created primarily by electrokinetic coupling. For low pressures, the variation of SP with pressure drop is linear, indicating a constant coupling coefficient (Cc) of -200 mV/MPa. However for press...

Numerical investigation of effect of crack geometrical parameters on hydraulic fracturing process of hydrocarbon reservoirs

Hydraulic fracturing (HF), as a stimulation technique in petroleum engineering, has made possible the oil production from reservoirs with very low permeability. The combination of horizontal drilling and multiple HF with various perforation angles has been widely used to stimulate oil reservoirs for economical productions. Despite the wide use of HF, there are still ambiguous aspects that requi...
